The sunset and a sperm whale on the beach.
So this was the sunset after they took the 30 foot sperm whale that had died only a few dozen feet from shore. The sperm whale was dying, malnourished and barely breathing, they tend to beach themselves so that water continues to pass over them and they don’t have to stay afloat to breathe. They also swim away from their pod to die alone, so this animal knew it was dying all the while as it made this journey to this specific spot. I wasn’t there to find the animal, nor was I there to see it carted off for its necropsy. (Is that what it’s called?)
I just thought it was amazing how silent the water was and how red the sky looked. I’m not partially religious but I believe that that animal was important for this to have happened so I’ve spent my Halloween down by the beach respecting life and standing in the water.
