wardenofthewood:

Though it pained him to hear her sorrow, Haldir remained reluctant. His expression only softened minutely, his eyes dull and tired. It was in Tauriel’s nature to be unpredictable; she burned hot or cold with no rhyme or reason and nothing in between, and Haldir was strung along wearily by the tides.

“Forgive me if I have difficulties believing your words,” he answered after a long moment of tense hesitation. “I grow weary of fighting you, Tauriel. How many more times must we argue before the trouble is too much?”

He failed to mention his own heartache as well, for she would only laugh at him. She would never share his feelings.

“But is that not how it always is?” Her face now dry, reigning in upon the sudden rush of emotions. She had always been a heart on the sleeve thinker, even if she had not always the outlet to expose such feelings.

“The night sky is darkest, yet the rising sun is still the brightest. We strive every day in all of our lives to find balance, I have failed to acknowledge that in my duties I forgot to find balance within myself – within us.”

“…” Her jaw fell slack, she felt as though they both stood in the eye of the storm. At this point if he choose to leave, to go from her life, it would be so. He was a warden and she a captain, he held more years and more experience – she was young and perhaps too young in her emotions for him to handle her. “I still do not want you to go yet if together you feel this is a conflict with no end…” Her words fell from her lips like petals from a flower; soft and carried away as she opened the door for him to leave her restraints.
