Tauriels mouth went ajar as she processed his words.
Her hazel eyes becoming intensely placid, her silent elven nature he seemed to always fall in awe with, was flaring.

She weighed her options.
If she met his feelings back, he would have happiness — they would have potentially some happiness. But how would they bring children to this world? How could she cope when he was nothing but a worms meal and a trees leaves? How could she cope when all she would be left with are fading memories and forgotten words and voices?

It seemed as though all the problems in the woodlands became of no concern to the she-elf as her gaze moved back and forth in thought.
Her world consisted of only him and her for the moment; her world felt like it lost all gravity and she was suspended in thin air.
Blinking rapidly, The daughter of the woodlands smiled softly, extending a gentle hand to grasp his bearded cheek. “I know you do.”

Her smile betrayed her mind, as her heart seemed to do for all she saw was how much love she held for her little friend; they stood together, alone and believing in freedom and non prejudice — a life where grudges were erased and bonds were reformed in pure, innocent trust with no malicious betrayals.

“Come, you need to sleep,” Tauriel reached forward and withdrew the wine glass from his hand, taking it in her own as she led him to bed.

“I heard you,” Kíli said softly, eyes dropping from her gaze, feeling exposed and vulnerable and not entirely willing to feel in such a manner just now. “I just- ” I was stubborn and wanted to prove my point and be right more than I wanted to accept what you had said. That was the truth, that was it, but Kíli didn’t want to admit it, not to himself nor to her. He didn’t wish to provoke her anger once more, but he knew the truth. He was worth less. A dwarrow life was more common than an elven life and it lasted a far shorter amount of time. Try as he might, he could not believe that, so he simply stayed silent for a long moment, taking in breaths of the cool night air, trying to think up something adequate to say, as he was once more lost for words.

“Thank you. For saying it.” The words sounded jarring and clumsy to Kíli’s ears. “That you love me, I mean. It means a lot to me that you would say it. It’s not that I didn’t believe that you did, it’s just that - ” Kíli cut off awkwardly, dark eyes darting up to meet lighter ones, his brows furrowing and teeth clasping his lower lip in anxious thought, worried he would phrase his words wrong again and offend her. “I know, but - I don’t. I’m not like you, I can’t read the changes in someone’s heartbeat, or the subtle expressions they make. To me, you’re written in another language, and, unless you speak your mind, it’s difficult for me to tell what’s on it. My people are more expressive than yours, and I just… I don’t always know. And it isn’t your fault, it’s neither of our fault’s it’s just…” Kíli trailed off, feeling silly again. “We’re different. It’s not bad, I like that we’re different. But we are.”

Her thumb brushed against his cheek bone, feeling the coarse hair scratch her skin as she repeated the slow motion again and again, listening to him speak. She looked into his eyes; it was easier to understand him when his large brown eyes were so expressive, whether he knew it or not.

“You’re welcome,” she replied softly, smiling.

An Idea spurred within her as Kili continued to speak, stepping over his words afraid to insult the she elf. Emerald eyes softened in appreciation for the archer before her, he truly was the kindest spirit she had met.

Slowly, as he spoke, Tauriel leaned forward inclining her head to the right. At first his lips were moving where he continued to speak about how they were different. His beard tickling her lips with its whiskers, “we are.” She murmured, unsure whether to close the short distance and make contact. “But it is what I like most about us.” Tauriel gently pushed the back of kilis head forward to kiss him.
