Thranduil’s eyes narrowed slightly. “I sent him there for his protection, not for him to go….prancing off on a dangerous quest! You cannot blame me for this. If anyone is to blame it is Elrond, and he will know my wrath if Legolas does not return to us. How dare you say this to me? Get out of my sight, Tauriel.”

“Do not question why I sent him there.” He raised his voice now, standing from his throne. “Imladris is a protected place, a safe place. Evil does not go there. He would not have been protected here! War will be upon us soon, and I do not know if we will be able to withstand it. You have not seen the horrors that I have seen. You do not know what we are up against!”

She was naive, so horribly naive. “I should have sent him to Círdan, but I thought Elrond would have sense enough to keep him safe.” He trusted Elrond to keep him safe. Obviously he had trusted him too easily.

“I do not need to question for I know!” She matched his tone, before resettling into her stoic demeanor.

“I have not seen the horrors you have seen? Do not turn this upon yourself; you are no victim! We all have our own crosses to bare! You know well that he belonged here, with his people! Not any whose form of hunts are from horse tops in glimmering armor with bannerman riding next to them. Tell me, how safe will he be when the darkness spreads there? Who will guard him then? He will stand alone– no one would shield him with their body, no one would care if one leaf fell.” Tauriel tried her best to keep her tone even and low, but her words ran faster and her eyes became pierced.

“…You trusted Elrond, the elves who would never even spare a glance toward us when we suffered, over your own kin?” Her face tore open in utter disgust for Thranduil.
