Thranduil’s eyes narrowed slightly. “I sent him there for his protection, not for him to go….prancing off on a dangerous quest! You cannot blame me for this. If anyone is to blame it is Elrond, and he will know my wrath if Legolas does not return to us. How dare you say this to me? Get out of my sight, Tauriel.”

Thranduil scoffed softly. “I did no such thing.”

Had he been a coward he would have left as soon as Emlineth died, took his son and moved back to the Havens. But he did not. He stayed, though the darkness made him weary and weak. He stayed even though he flinched every time Legolas went out with the patrols, fearing his son wouldn’t return. “And if I were a coward, I would not be standing here today.”

He turned away from her, moving back to his throne. “Get out of my sight. You are hereby suspended.”

As she stepped down she unlaced her cape from her armor. She truly believed her words that she pinned against him, Her anger for the loss of her friend was the only thing she saw.

Naive? No. Nothing about her was naive since the day the era of great peace ended. None of them had been the same; they all felt the impact of their loss, of their isolation in the north, the danger in dolgoldur. Only the dead were naive to the woes of the living.

She would not serve a jaded king who danced around the crystal clear fact, he did not trust that they would survive. Had he thought as much, he would have kept Legolas here, he would have put Faith in them, in himself as a leader, she as a captain and their kin as a unit. She could never lead her guards away from a slaughter, to be the only survivors. She would out every drop of blood they had into the war– to reap what they sowed.

Her anger at his actions only burned brighter.
Stepping forth she threw her captains cape down to his feet. “I would not serve a man who has given up hope in his own people.”
