Loki’s gaze softened considerably as he watched her speak, fascinated by the way she said things, how she said them, how she moved. Somehow, even with how busy he was watching her, he managed to listen to her words and caught the sadness to her gaze almost immediately. As if in consolation, he returned the squeeze administered to his hand and resumed twirling that same strand of hair around a finger on his one free hand. “Will you tell me more about him? Or is it too sensitive of a topic? I would not wish to make you uncomfortable or relive a depressing time.” Something deep within told him this dwarf she spoke of had meant quite a bit to her, certainly more than was normal for an elf, as from what he understood the two species did not intermingle very well. Or perhaps that was something unique solely to the elves of Mirkwood and none of the others. Still, the point stood.

“Sh,” she spoke gently, inhaling softly, “I do not mind.” In truth, she didn’t. It all was sad, the greif to large for such small hands, but it was life and it was fate that her dearest friend, would leave one way or another, but the young and naive always died first. Especially for a cause. Blinking, she looked to his face and slowly to his hands where she flexed her fingers aginst his own. “Kili, his name was Kili. He told stories of starlight and red moons- not of jewels, gold and greed– no hubris.” she smiled as her voice grew softer. “He was a friend i found in the least of places. Though it was short lived…War came when we least expected and..” Her breathe hitched, as she swallowed the lump in her throat, war always came when least expected. “Death is not the same for elven folk, we die in body- but we do not die in spirit, we go to heal and to be reborn as we were when we fell. But, the others,.. It is permanent. Death is their companion, it holds their hands and takes them down a path that we cannot follow. They’re gone.” Tauriel, grew silent as she feigned composure, for a glimmer of a moment, the cold captains demeanor caved and she admitted what she refused for centuries. “I have lost everything to this war, I sit awake, and I wait for the moment when I realize I have lost myself.”
