    Still he said nothing, though his gaze did lift to lock with her much gentler one, uncertainty swimming within his own. He made no hint of agreeing or disagreeing with her statement and altogether decided to ignore it and pretend he hadn’t heard or that his silence could be taken as some sort of answer. Was he willing to show which guard had done it? No. And not because he was afraid, certainly not, but because he felt it was unnecessary.

    “I am fine,” he finally murmured. “I have suffered far worse.”

“No guard should have ever dealt a blow to you. What if it were not you and a child instead? What if it were a blade laced with poison? Self control. They know the rules.” She was disappointed in her kin, less angry. She was grateful though that none of this was done in ill light, her drilling would be worse in the morrow. Tauriel took the dry side of the towel and cleaned his face, cracking a laugh, “Look, it is as if I am bathing you. You are lucky.”
